Fashion is Work?, 2019.
I designed my article spread to educate my peers and bring recognition to the influence that low-income communities bring to the dominant culture. I want my peers of different backgrounds to be exposed to a whole new perspective on clothing and where some influences and trends come from. This spread was very important to me because once I came to Berkeley and was exposed to peers of different economic and social classes, I knew there was a side of their world that had not been challenged, so I wanted to bring awareness.

Many like to believe movements and fashion dissemination are the result of downward flow from the top of the social pyramid that are slowly accepted by lower social levels. This is an educational article on fashion relevance and influences that are derived from low-income communities into the dominant culture; Trickle Up Theory. Exploration of marketing advertisements and subcultures to highlight the styles and trends that are derived from less dominant groups. Attention to creativity and the search for norms we can emphasize and let go of.
