You Tell Me

You Tell Me, 2016. Game board, player cards, spinner, box. Dimensions variable.

You Tell Me is a board game designed to produce an inclusive and empathetic environment in which players can engage in lighthearted yet meaningful conversations with others—a rare occasion in a fast-paced, results-based society. Our team’s board game comes out of a project focused on re-approaching discussions on mental health. It is framed around common threads in this context, such as academic stress and personal health, and encourages players to approach uncomfortable moments at their own pace. You Tell Me is intended as a welcoming starting point for thoughtful dialogue, either in the moment or later on. As part of the project, we also produced a short film portraying our campus-wide engagement around the topic of mental health, helping identify how the term is being understood on campus. Our team met with professionals at the Tang Center (University Health Services) and we plan to donate the video and board game to the Tang Center—helping pave the way for more open, empathetic discussion of mental health at Berkeley.
