San Francisco and the Divine Comedy: One Faith One Path, 2021.
San Francisco and the Divine Comedy: One Faith One Path, is my interpretation of purification in Purgatory. In Dante’s Divine Comedy, Purgatory is an island mountain where suffering takes a major role in purgation when the penitent human spirits try to climb to Heaven and prove themselves worthy. I think Dante’s description of Purgatory resembles my mindset about the rule for this world: in order to fulfill your dream, you have to struggle hard. Success will not come if you shed no sweat. Through the person carefully protecting the flame, even if it means getting burned, resembles how people still choose to climb up mountain purgatory even if it meant great suffering and the sense of difficulty. The people walking along the coastline eventually getting closer to where the light is in the background are a representation of reaching their “Heaven.” I chose to use photos to convey my ideas because I believe photographs allow me to capture the realism in the parallel between past and present, as well as presenting the “Dantes” in my life.
