Stephanie Syjuco's creative interventions make the familiar strange, and in the process, allow us to ask ourselves why things are the way they are. In her talk, Syjuco will show how art, specifically her work, can question everything, from the "International Orange" of the Golden Gate Bridge over authenticity in high fashion handbags,  to the role of Western Art in promoting manifest destiny. Her talk will include an overview of her work as it is presented in museums and galleries around the world, but also will focus on more private studio and sketchbook moments in which she develops her creative strategies for questioning the world and exploring new alternatives.

Stephanie Syjuco is an Associate Professor of Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley. Her work is featured in the acclaimed Art 21 series by PBS, and her exhibition record spans the globe.
