An (Incomplete) Timeline of Artist's Learning From One Another, 2020.
This work was for a timeline project where we looked for themes/connections between our own lifetime and what we've studied in the class (Psychologies of Art - Medieval / Early Modern / Renaissance). I’ve always enjoyed looking at examples of artists practicing off of one another’s works, so for my project I decided to illustrate a page of artists who learned from or were influenced by each other. I focused on Giotto, Michelangelo, and Raphael because I was able to find direct image examples of them practicing off other works. However, I included some mini-portraits of other artists I felt were connected/ inspired me in particular. I connected it to me in 2016, when I went to Florence for the first time and was able to see a lot of these masterworks up close. I titled it “An (Incomplete) Timeline” because it could definitely be widely expanded with more time and research, as art influencing art is not just a linear thread from artist to artist.
