What if we lived in a world where we psychically left pieces of ourselves behind in the people we meet, places we go, and things we do? Would we be able to see and better understand the elements that contribute to our individuality? I decided to explore these questions through significant people, places, and things in my life. With the help of my camera and triangular pieces of mirror, I photographed the reflections of these central ‘pieces’ of my identity. I believe the people, places, and things that I choose to photograph make me who I am. I intentionally cut the pieces of mirror into triangles, which parallel the shape of the Greek letter delta that is used in mathematics to symbolize change. The reflections of the people, places, and things I photographed in the mirrors are constants in my life despite change. The mirrors can be viewed as portals into my own internal world where identity is scattered. Not shattered. Not broken. Each piece of the mirror is part of my world, but also contains a world of its own. Although I never photographed myself for this project, these photos collectively serve as my own reflection. Even in the absence of my image, a portrait of me has been created.
